ST CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University women's volleyball team (4-6 OUA West) will head into the winter break on a winning note after a 3-1 win against the Nipissing Lakers (0-11 OUA East) on Sunday afternoon in the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Hayley Orr for her outstanding achievement as a CIS Academic All-Canadian. "We would like to congratulate Hayley on her great academic honour," said Director of Athletics Robert Hilson. "Hayley's success has been an excellent example of what all student-athletes should strive for academically."
The Badgers were sharp on offense Sunday taking the first set 25-17 on 15 kills with a .310 hitting percentage.
Nipissing struggled in the first set with just five kills and eight errors but they found their legs midway through the second going on a four-point run to take a 16-15 lead at the technical timeout. The Lakers would come away with a 25-20 second set win to tie the match at one.
Brock stepped it up a notch in a 25-10 third set win that saw them compile 16 kills with just two errors for a .368 hitting percentage.
The fourth set 25-11 win was just about as impressive. The Badgers hit .500 on 12 kills and one error to take the match 3-1.
Senior
Tori Stirling was unstoppable on offense registering a career high 19 kills with only one error and a remarkable .514 hitting percentage.
Lucy McLay had a double double with 10 kills and 14 digs.
Maddie Brown tacked on eight kills in the win. Junior setter
Lauren Stirling was outstanding finishing the match with 38 assists to go with five kills on just 9 attempts for a .556 hitting percentage.
Christina Caruso, Lindsay Vanderweide, and Tracy Hammerton led the Lakers with eight, seven, and six kills respectively. Caruso and Hammerton combined for 29 digs, while Jade DeCoste had 23 assists in the loss.
As a team, the Badgers hit .323 collecting 53 kills with 12 errors on 127 attempts. Nipissing hit .104 with 31 kills, 17 errors and 134 attempts.
The Badgers will return to action following the exam and winter break with a key divisional matchup against the Guelph Gryphons (6-4 OUA West) on January 7
th, 2014.
