Late run leads Brock women's basketball past Gryphons 76-62

GUELPH, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (7-5 OUA West) came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the Guelph Gryphons (3-9 OUA West) by the score of 76-62 Saturday afternoon at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre.

Brock led 33-28 at the half. In the third quarter, Guelph would go on an 11-0 run over a four minute span and led 48-45 after 30 minutes.

In the final frame, the Badgers would close out the last five minutes with a 20-4 run, on route to their seventh victory of the season.

The Badgers had three players in double figures led by senior Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who recorded the double double adding 21 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Jenalyn Yumol (London, Ont.) contributed with 17 points including 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Senior Samantha De Jong (St. Catharines, Ont.) added 14 points and five rebounds to lead the Brock offense.

Leading Guelph was Katherine MacTavish and Erica McFadden who both registered 16 poiunts each in the loss.

The Badgers shot 41.5% from the field going 22-for-53. They continued to struggle from the arc going just 1-for-7 14.2%) but went to the charity stripe 44 times to the Gryphons 19, knocking down 70.4% (31-for-44). Guelph shot 38.7% (24-for-62) from the floor, 25.0% (4-for-16) from beyond the arc and 52.6% (10-for-19) from the free throw line.

Brock returns to action January 15th at 6pm, when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
