Brock men's hockey drops 5-2 decision to Mustangs

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team (9-9-3 OUA West) dropped a 5-2 decision to the Western Mustangs (14-6-0 OUA West) in front of a capacity crowd at the Seymour-Hannah Centre Friday night.

Brock opened the scoring with under five minutes to go in the opening period as senior Matt Abercrombie (Sarnia, Ont.) and freshman Sammy Banga (Windsor, Ont.) setup senior Kaine Geldart (Kingston, Ont.) for his 8th goal of the season.

The Mustangs would tie it 1-1 on the powerplay with 23 seconds remaining in the first period as Daniel Elrich found Zach Harnden who beat Brock starter Adrian Volpe (Burlington,Ont.) for his 11th goal of the campaign.

Western would take a 2-1 lead 4:22 into the second period as Harndren setup Kyle De Coste for his 9th goal of the season.

With 3:32 remaining in the second frame, the Badgers would go to work on the powerplay, as Banga and Geldart found  sophomore Andrew Radjenovic (Hamilton, Ont.) who buried it past Western netminder Josh Unice tying the game 2-2.

In the third period it was all Western as they scored three times on 10 shots, including an empty netter. Scoring for the Mustangs in the third period were Harnden who finished with the hat trick and four-point night and Adam McKee.

In goal Western's Unice recorded 26 saves for his 64th career victory. Volpe registered 31 saves in the loss.
