Windsor, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (7-7 OUA West) dropped an 87-65 decision against the No. 2 ranked Windsor Lancers (13-1 OUA West) Saturday afternoon at the St. Denis Centre.
Despite the loss, Brock still holds onto to one of the final two playoff spots in the OUA West ,as they sit tied for fifth place with the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
Brock had three players in double figures led by senior
Samantha De Jong (St. Catharines, Ont.) who led all players with 19 points and eight rebounds. Senior
Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) added 12 points and three rebounds while moving into 9th all-time in Brock career scoring with 1320 points, surpassing five-time OWIAA All-Star Maureen Kelly 1319 points (1980-85). Junior
Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) rounded out the Brock leaders adding 10 points in the loss.
Windsor was led by Korissa Williams and Cheyenne Roger who both added 17 points each. Miah-Marie Langlois added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists while Jessica Clemencon and Caitlyn Longmuir rounded out the Lancers leaders adding nine points each in the victory.
For the game, the Lancers shot 50% from the field going 37-for-74 including 36.4% (8-for-22) from beyond the arc. They were also 5-for-6 (83.3%) from the charity stripe. Brock finished the game shooting 37.9% (25-for- 66) from the floor and 82.4% (14-for-17) from the free throw line. They continued to struggle from long range going just 1-for-10 (10.0%) from downtown. Windsor won the battle on the boards outrebounding Brock 48-31.
The Badgers next action is January 24th and 25th at 6:00pm when they host the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
