ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (2-14 OUA West) dropped their fifth straight as they lost to the Lakehead Thunderwolves by the score of 78-68 at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Friday night.
Lakehead led by six after 10 minutes 18-12. Midway through the second quarter Lakehead led by five, before going on a 12-3 run to take a 35-21 lead at the half.
The Thunderwolves led by seven after three quarters 57-50. Early in the fourth quarter Lakehead led by nine, before the Badgers answered with a 13-4 run to tie the game 63-63 with 5:47 left in regulation. The T-Wolves answered right back closing out the final five minutes with a 15-5 run on route to the ten point road victory.
Leading the Badgers was senior
Tshing Kasamba (St. Catharines, Ont.) who recorded 21 points going 8-for-15 from the field. Sophomore
Brandon John (Toronto, Ont.), who made his return to the Brock lineup, added 15 points off the bench. Freshman
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) pulled down 12 rebounds and a season low six points. Rounding out the Brock leaders was senior
C.J. Smith (Scarborough, Ont.) and junior
Nate Gardner (Ajax, Ont.) who chipped in with eight and seven points respectively.
Lakehead had four players in double figures led by Henry Tan who led all scorers with a game-high 23 points. Also in double figures were Dwayne Harvey (15 points, 5 reb), Joseph Nitychoruk (14 points, 7 reb) and Igor Lebov (11 points 17 reb).
For the game, Brock shot 42.6% (26-for-61) from the field, including 38.5% (5-for-13) from beyond the arc. The Badgers were just 11-for-19 (59.9%) from the charity stripe. Lakehead shot 45.3% (29-for-64) from the floor, 16.7% (2-for-12) from three point range and 69.2% (18-for-26) from the free throw line. Lakehead dominated the glass outrebounding Brock 46-20.
The Badgers return to action tomorrow night at 8pm when they host Lakehead at the Bob Davis Gymnasium to close out the weekend series.
