Brock women's basketball offense goes cold in 63-36 loss to Thunderwolves

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (8-8 OUA West) dropped a 63-36 decision to the Lakehead Thunderwolves (8-8 OUA West) Saturday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium. 

Brock struggled in the early minutes and that trend continued throughout the first half as they shot a season low 11.5% (3-for-26) from the field trailing 39-15 after 20 minutes. Lakehead outscored Brock 25-5 in the second quarter putting together a 11-0 run in the final five minutes.

Leading the Lakehead offense was Jylisa Williams who recorded 20 points and 16 rebounds for the double-double. Essa Jacobsen contributed with 12 points and eight rebounds going 6-for-9 from the field. Kelsey Bardsley rounded out the T-Wolves leaders adding nine points and five assists including three treys.

Junior Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) was the Badgers top scorer finishing with seven points. Seniors Samantha De Jong (St. Catharines, Ont.) and Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) were held to a combined 3-for-15 (20.0%) from the field finishing with six and four points. Freshman Alexandra Symonds (Pelham, Ont.)  finished with a season high six points going 3-for-4 from the field.

For the game, Brock shot a season low 21.2% (11-for-52) from the field, 16.7% (2-for-12) from beyond the arc and 66.7% (12-for-18) from the charity stripe. Lakehead finished the game shooting 43.1% (28-for-65) from the field including 30.8% (4-for-13) from downtown. The Badgers were outrebounded by their widest margin of the season 48-25. 

The Badgers return to action Wednesday, January 29th at 6pm when they travel to Waterloo to take on the Warriors.
