Brock men's basketball falls to No. 8 ranked McMaster 95-59

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. -  The Brock University men's basketball team (2-9 OUA West) dropped a 95–59 decision to the No. 8 ranked McMaster Marauders (8-3 OUA West) Wednesday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Brock played a tough opening quarter against the nationally ranked Marauders trailing by just five 22-17. In the final two minutes of the second quarter, McMaster went on a 9-2 run to take a 21-point lead into the half 49-28.

Midway through the third quarter, Brock would cut the lead to 16, but it was the Marauders offense answering with 14-2 run over the next three minutes leading by 28 points, 67-39. McMaster closed out the final five minutes of the fourth quarter with a 13-2 run on route to their eighth victory of the regular season.

McMaster had five players in double figures led by Nathan Pelech who recorded 19 points including four three-pointers. Nathan McCarthy and Aaron Redpath both contributed with 13 points each while Taylor Black and Joe Rocca both chipped in with 10 points in the victory.

The Badgers were led by freshman Dani Elgadi (Waterloo,Ont.) who recorded a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds. Senior Tshing Kasamba (St. Catharines, Ont.) registered 16 points and eight rebounds in the loss. The Badgers were without both CJ Smith (Scarbourough, Ont.) and Brandon John (Toronto, Ont.) due to injury.

McMaster shot 41.7% from the field going 35-for-84 including 11-for-30 (36.7%) from beyond the arc. Brock finished the game shooting 35.5% (22-for-62) from the floor, 33.3% (6-for-18) from three-point range and 52.9% (9-for-17) from the charity stripe. The Marauders outrebounded Brock 47 to 35 highlighted by 17 offense boards which led to 28 second chance points.

The Badgers next action is Saturday, January 11th when they take on the Guelph Gryphons on the road.
