TORONTO - The Brock University women's volleyball team (2-2 OUA) upset the No. 8 ranked York Lions in straight sets (25-14, 25-21, 25-21) Friday at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
"I was very pleased on they way our team executed the game plan today versus a talented York squad," aid Brock head coach
Dale Ann Melnick. "We continue to improve each week and are very well prepared game in and game out knowing what we need to do to be successful."
Leading the Badgers offense was
Renee Helmer who recorded 10 kills.
Maddie Brown contributed with six kills and two aces, while rookie
Tori Carroll collected four kills, career high four aces and two block solos.
Karlinna O'Leary and
Katie Murray led the Brock defense registering 15 digs each.
For the Lions, Aleks Arsovic, Brittney Hopley and Michelle Pierce all added six kills each. York setter Kirsten Dillon added 23 assists and seven digs in the loss.
For the match, Brock hit .153 adding 28 kills with just 13 errors on 98 total attempts. York had their worst offensive outing in the last 96 matches finishing with 28 kills and 32 errors on 113 attempts for a -.035 hitting percentage. The last time the Lions had a negative hitting percentage in a match was back on Feb. 10, 2010. It was also the first time since Jan. 8, 2011 that they were defeated 3-0 in an OUA regular season match.
The Badgers return to action Saturday afternoon when they take on the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay.
