LONDON, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (2-5 OUA) ended the first half of the regular season with 76-66 loss to the Western Mustangs (5-3 OUA) Saturday night on the road.
Brock led 24-17 after one quarter and trailed the Mustangs 38-31 at the half, after just scoring seven points in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, the Mustangs extended their lead to 12, leading the Badgers 60-48 after 30 minutes.
Late in the fourth quarter, Brock cut Western's lead in half, trailing 70-64. The Mustangs closed out the final minute and a half with a 6-2 run, to secure their fifth victory of the regular season.
Brock had three players in double figures, led by senior
Matt Marshall who recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double. Freshman
Johneil Simpson added 18 points and four rebounds, while junior
Zachary Angelini chipped in with 12 points in the loss.
The Mustangs were led by Greg Morrow who recorded a game-high 26 points going 10-for-14 from the field. Also in double figures for Western were Quinn Henderson and Jedson Tavernier who contributed with 11 and 10 points respectively.
For the game, Brock shot 35.4% (23-for-65) from the field, 30.8% (8-for-26) from three-point land and 75.0% (12-for-16) from the charity stripe. The Mustangs were 28-for-56 (50.0%) from the floor, 5-for-20 (25.0%) from beyond the arc and 15-for-27 (55.6%) at the free throw line.
Over the holidays, Brock will travel down the I-90 to take on NCAA Division III opponents University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).Â
