THUNDER BAY, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team fell to 3-6 in the OUA Central Division dropping a 75-58 decision to the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday night at the Thunderdome.
The two teams played an even first half and were tied 30-30 after 20 minutes.
In the third quarter, the Thunderwolves opened with a 10-0 run and outscored the Badgers 21-7 to take a commanding 51-37 lead after 30 minutes, on route to their sixth conference victory of the season. Lakehead now sits in first place in the OUA Central Division.
Brock was led by rookie
Melissa Tatti (Ancaster, Ont.) who recorded 18 points. Senior
Katie Harpur (NOTL, Ont.) contributed with 10 points and seven rebounds, while senior
Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) and sophomoreÂ
Alexandra Symonds (Pelham, Ont.) chipped in with nine and eight points respectively.
Lakehead fifth year senior and the OUA leading scorer Jylisa Williams recorded a game-high 31 points. Also in double figures were Essa Jacobsen (16 points), Katelyn Andrea (10 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists) and Katie Ulakovic (10 points).Â
The Badgers shot 36.9% (24-for-65) from the field, just 17.6% (3-for-17) from three-point range and 70.0% (7-for-10) from the free throw line. Lakehead went 30-for-66 (47.6%) from the field, 4-for-16 (25.0%) from beyond the arc and 11-for-16 (68.8%) from the charity stripe. The Thunderwolves also outrebounded Brock 39-26.
Brock will continue their road schedule next weekend when they take on the Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs.
