THUNDER BAY, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team dropped a 65-55 decision to the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Thunderdome Friday night on the road.
The Badgers closed out the final two and a half minutes of the opening quarter with a 7-2 run lead 20-13 after one quarter. In the second quarter, the host Thunderwolves battled back and put together an 8-2 run over the final five minutes to take a 37-32 lead at the half.
Brock outcored Lakehead 7-0 in the opening two minutes of the third quarter to regain the lead 39-37. Lakehead battled right back with an 8-0 run of their own over the next minute leading 45-39 with 6:41 left in the quarter. The Thunderwolves led 49-45 at the end of 30 minutes.
Brock sophomore Kira Cornellisen (Aylmer, Ont.) would knock down a jumper to make it a two-point game 49-47 to open the fourth quarter. Lakehead would then go on a 10-0 run to take their largest lead of the game 59-47 with just over six minutes left in regulation. The two teams went cold in the final three minutes combining for just 1 of 10 from the field. Lakehead went 4-for-5 from the charity stripe in the final two minutes to secure the home victory.
Leading the Thunderwolves was the OUA leading scorer Jylisa Williams who finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Also in double figures were Katie Ulakovic and Katelyn Andrea who contributed with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Jenalyn Yumol (London, Ont.) registered 13 points, while Cornellisen and rookie
Melissa Tatti (Ancaster, Ont.) chipped in with eight points each in the loss.
For the game, Brock shot 42.1% (24-for-57) from the field, 33.3% (6-for-18) from beyond the arc and only went to the free throw line three times going 1-for-3 (33.3%). Lakehead shot 32.9% (23-for-70) from the floor including 33.3% (6-for-18) from three-point land and were 13-for-20 (65.0%) from the charity stripe.
The two teams are back in action Saturday night. Tip-off is 6pm at the Thunderdome.
