TORONTO - The Brock University women's hockey team (2-5 OUA) dropped a 3-2 decision to the Ryerson Rams Thursday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Ryerson opened the scoring 10:49 into the first peiod as Cassie Sharp and Stephanie Chiste set up Blair Malthaner for the power play marker.
One minute later, Brock's
Sophie Herbert (Ryde Isle of Wight, UK) added a short handed goal, beating Ryerson starter Alex Armstrong, to tie the game 1-1.
Midway through the second, Rams forward Emma Rutherford beat Brock rookie starter
Jensen Murphy (Kingston,Ont.) to put the Rams up 2-1.
With just over five minutes left in regulation, Rutherford added her second goal of the game, to give Ryerson a two goal lead 3-1.
Brock would cut the lead to one with 1:16 left as
Brittney Cabral (Hamilton, Ont.) set up
Christina Ieradi (Maple, Ont.) with the man advantage. The Rams would hold on for the 3-2 victory.
In goal, Murphy recorded 28 save in the loss while Armstrong added 21 saves for the win.
The Badgers return to action October 31st at 2:15pm when they host the York Lions at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
