Toronto Ont. - The No. 7 ranked Brock University women's basketball team (2-1 OUA) improved to 2-1 in the regular season as they defeated the York Lions by the score of 68-52 at the Tait Mckenzie Center.
The Badgers jumped out to a 22-9 lead after one quarter, and held a 33-25 lead at the half. Brock led by as many as 20 midway through the final quarter on route to their seventh overall victory of 2015-16.
Brock had two players in double figures led by
Jenalyn Yumol (London, Ont.) who finished with 16 points and
Kira Cornelissen (Aylmer, Ont.) who registered 13 points and seven rebounds.
Kate Harpur (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.) added eight points and nine rebounds while
Melissa Tatti (Ancaster,Ont.) c
hipped in with eight points in the victory.
Leading the Lions were Nina Guzina and Ishanaa Seupersadsingh who recorded 16 and 15 points respectively.
For the game, the Badgers shot 37.5% 24-for-64 from the field, 23.8% 5-for-21 from beyond the arc and 60.0% 15-for-25 from the free throw line.
Brock also won the battle on the glass, outrebounding York 46-26. The Lions went 18-for-63 (28.6%) from the floor 4-for-14 (28.6%) from long range and 12-for-17 (70.6%) from the charity stripe.Â
The Badgers return to action Saturday night at 6pm when they take on the Queen's Gaels in Kingston, Ontario .
