Kingston Ont. - The No. 7 Brock University women's basketball team (3-1 OUA) defeated the Queen's Gaels by the score of 69-50 on the road Saturday night.
Brock trailed 17-16 after one quarter and were tied 26-26 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Badgers put together 28-7 run over an eight minute span, to take their largest lead of the ball game 21 points, 54-33, with 2:07 remaining in the quarter. The Gaels would cut the lead to 14 points early in the fourth quarter, but it was Brock going 5-for-6 from the free throw to close out the contest.
Brock had four players in double digits led by
Kate Harpur (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.) who led all scorers with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double .
Kira Cornelissen (Aylmer, Ont.) added 12 points and nine boards while
Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) and
Aryn Finley (Dresden, Ont.) chipped in with 10 points each.
Jenalyn Yumol (London, Ont.) finished with eight points and five assists, as she moved into second all-time in career assists, surpassing Vanessa Bozza (345 assists).
Queen's had four players reach double figures with Emily Hazlett and Abby Dixon leading the way with 13 points each.
For the game, Brock shot 43.5% (27-for-62) from the field, 46.2% (6-for-13) from beyond the arc and 60.0% (9-for-15) from the free throw line. Queens shot 30.3% (20-for-66) from the floor and just 18.2% (4-for-22) from long range. The Badgers won the battle on the glass rebounding the Gaels 47-36.
The Badgers return to action next weekend November 27-28 for their OUA home opener against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
