No. 4 ranked Brock men's basketball opens season with an 83-75 victory over No. 8 Marauders

Box Score 3360HAMILTON, Ont. - The No. 4 ranked Brock University men's basketball team opened the 2015-16 OUA regular season with an 83-75 victory over the No. 8 ranked McMaster Marauders at the Burridge Gymnasium Wednesday night.

With the victory, the Badgers end McMaster's 14-game win streak, dating back to February 20th, 2008, during Brock's National Championship season. After scoring just 29 points in the first half, the Badgers offense came alive in the second half scoring 54 points, on route to their eighth victory against CIS opponents this season.

The Badgers trailed 23-21 early in the second quarter, before McMaster put together a 15-8 run to take a 38-29 lead after 20 minutes.

In the third quarter, the Badgers outscored McMaster 31-18, highlighted by a 13-2 run midway through. Brock led 60-56 at the end of three quarters.

In the final quarter, the Marauders would cut the lead to one, 64-63, with 8:21 left in regulation. The Badgers offense would answer again with a 10-1 run to go up 74-64 with 5:24 left in regulation. Despite struggling at the charity stripe down the stretch going 3-for-8, the Badgers would clean up the glass with four offense boards in the final two minutes to secure the win.

The Badgers had four players in double figures led by Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) who finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double . Ryan Bennett (Toronto, Ont.) chipped in with 19 points while Johneil Simpson (Toronto, Ont.) added 16 points, eight rebounds and seven steals. Rounding out the Brock leaders was Matt Marshall (Burlington, Ont.) who collected 15 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.

The Marauders had five players in double digits led by Rohan Boney who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench . Trevon McNeil added 14 points and five rebounds while Aaron Redpath (13 points), Leon Alexander (12 points) and Troy Joseph (12 points) rounded out the McMaster leaders.

For the game, Brock shot 40.3% (29-for-72) from the field, just 27.3% (3-for-11) from beyond the arc and 62.9% (22-for-35) from the charity stripe. McMaster shot 42.2% (27-for-64) from the floor, 30.0% (6-for-20) from long range and 57.7% (15-for-26) from the free throw line.The Badgers won the battle on the boards outrebounding McMaster 43-37 .
