ST.CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University men's hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Lakehead Thunderwolves in front of a crowd of 1,453 at the Seymour-Hannah Centre Friday night.
The Brock Badgers teams, fans and minor hockey organizations at the game brought in a large amount of food with it going to Community Care St. Catharines/Thorold. The Badgers have also partnered with the Niagara Catholic District School Board who are collecting non-perishable food items up until the hloliday break.
The Badgers opened the scoring 55 seconds into the first period as
Chris Maniccia (St. Catharines, ON) slid it past Lakehead starter Devin Green for the 1-0- lead.
Sammy Banga (Windsor, ON) and
Josh Timpano (Orillia, ON) added the assists.
Just over six minutes into the second period, Brock went up 2-0 as
Brody Silk (Iroquois Falls, ON) and Banga setup
Mitch Nardi (Hamilton, ON) for his ninth goal of the season.
Lakehead would cut the lead in half at 7:35 of the second period, as
Dylan Butler and Jake Wright setup Cody Alcock for his sixth goal of the campaign..
In the third period, the Thunderwolves tied the game 2-2 at the 2:07 mark as Wright added and unassisted goal. With just over five minutes remaining in regulation, Lakehead's Billy Jenkins would record his sixth goal of the season, which proved to be the eventual game winner.
In goal, Brock starter
Clint Windsor registered 36 saves in the loss. Green added 19 saves for the victory.
The Badgers are now off until the new year and will open the second half of the regular season Jan. 8th versus the Western Mustangs.
