ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team defeated the Guelph Gryphons by the score of 78-75 in overtime Wednesday night at the Bon Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers jumped out to an early 18-9 lead midway through the first quarter and held a one-point lead, 25-24, at the end of ten minutes. The score was tied 36-36 midway through the second quarter, before Guelph put together a 15-6 run, ending the first half with a 50-41 lead.
In the third quarter, the Gryphons jumped out to a 16-point lead, 61-45, after thirty minutes.
With 7:33 remaining in regulation, Brock trailed 68-53, before going on a 19-4 run to tie it 72-72, sending it to overtime. In OT, the Badgers jumped out to a 78-72 lead, and were able to hold on for the three-point home victory.
Leading the Badgers was the duo of 
Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) and 
Kira Cornelissen  (Aylmer, Ont.) who combined for 44 points. Santilli led all scorers with 23 points and five rebounds while Cornelissen contributed with 21 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double. Rookie 
Melissa Tatti (Ancaster, Ont.) recorded 16 points, six rebounds, six assists, and six steals.
Guelph was led by Bridget Atkinson who recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.
For the game, the Badgers shot 32.5% (27-for-83) from the field, 36.1% (13-for-36) from beyond the arc and 61.1% (11-for-18) from the charity stripe. Guelph shot 37.8% (31-for-82) from the floor, 33.3% (8-for-24) from long range and 62.5% (5-for-8) from the free throw line. The Gryphons won the battle on the boards, outrebounding Brock by a 57-39 margin.
The Badgers return to action Saturday at 1pm when they host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.
