Box Score The Brock Badgers men's hockey team season came to end Sunday night in Windsor with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Lancers.
After taking game one of the best of three OUA quarterfinal playoff series with a 2-1 win last Wednesday night in St. Catharines, the eighth seeded Badgers dropped game two 4-2 Saturday afternoon forcing a third and deciding game against the top-ranked Lancers.
Sunday night the Badgers led 2-0 after one period of play, and 2-1 heading into the third on goals from
Sammy Banga and
Daniel Tanel.
After Windsor tied things midway through the third period,
Spencer Turcotte would give Brock a 3-2 lead.
However, with 3:02 left in regulation time, the Lancers would once again tie things up sending the game to overtime.
The wideopen, back and forth, affair would continue in the extra period before Kyle Hope, at the 10:45 mark, would score from a tough angle to give Windsor the victory.
Adrian Volpe, who faced over 130 shots in the three-game series, was strong again making 38 saves in the loss.
Parker Van Bus Kirk made 30 stops to pick up the win. Julian Luciani scored twice for Windsor, while Chad Shepley had the other Lancers goal.
"We finished the season playing the best hockey of any stretch we've had all year," said a very proud but dejected Brock head coach
Murray Nystrom. "We had nine first year players on our roster in most games and they have gained some really valuable experience.
The toughest part of the result is knowing many players have played their final university games."
