ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (6-9 OUA) defeated the Waterloo Warriors by the score of 90–81 Wednesday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
After an even first half, the Badgers held onto a three-point lead 42-39.
In the third quarter, the Badgers extended their lead to seven, with six minutes remaining, before Waterloo rallied back to take a 64-60 lead after three quarters, highlighted by five consecutive three-pointers.
In the final stanza, Waterloo went up by seven early, before the Badgers put together a 20-4 run, to take an 80-71 lead with just over three minutes left in regulation. Brock went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to secure the victory.
Brock had four players in double figures led by
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) who finished with a season-high 35 points going 15-for-20 (75.0%) from the field. He also pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Matt Marshall (Burlington, Ont.) recorded his first career triple-double finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 12 assists.
Johneil Simpson (Toronto, Ont.) contributed with 20 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double while
Zachary Angelini (Hamilton, Ont.) added 11 points seven rebounds and five assists in the victory.
Leading the Warriors was Jaspreet Gill who finished with 25 points including 5 three-pointers. Ben Davis, Miles Charvis and John Ravenhorst chipped in with 17, 16 and 15 points respectively.
For the game, the Badgers shot 45.2% (33-for-73) from the field, 31.3% (5-for-16) from beyond the arc and 70.4% (19-for-27) from the charity stripe. The Warriors shot 44.4% (28–for-63) from the floor, including 40.6% (13-for–32) from three-point land. Waterloo was also 12-for-19 (66.7%) from the free-throw line. Brock outrebounded Waterloo by a 46-29 margin.
