ST. CATHARINES, Ont - The Brock University women's basketball team (6-9 OUA) defeated Waterloo (3-13 OUA) by the final score of 67-54 on Wednesday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers took control of the game from the very beginning as they established their presence in the paint. Brock's dominant play down low led to multiple second chance scoring opportunites in the opening quarters which they capitalized on to take a comfortable 39-24 lead into halftime.
The home side continued their strong play in the third quarter, taking the largest lead of the game 41-24 with 8:50 left in the frame. Waterloo attempted a fourth quarter comeback but ran out of time as Brock secured the victory by the final score of 67-54.
Brock was led by the strong play of
Kira Cornelissen who ended the night with 16 points, 6 rebounds. Guards
Melissa Tatti and
Jenalyn Yumol both chipped in with 10 points respectively.
Becky Ralph had a strong game on the boards as she managed to secure a career-high 13 rebounds on the night.
Waterloo had two players finish with double digit scoring figures on the night. Madison Behr led the team in scoring with 19 points, 8 rebounds. Amy Jarvis contributed to the Warriors offensive play with 12 points. While Marti Killeen chipped in with 8 points, 6 rebounds.
The Badgers shot 33.3% (23-69) from the field, 25.9% (7-27) from the three point line and 73.7% (14-19) from the charity stripe. Waterloo shot 28.0% (21-75) from the field, 25.0% (5-20) from behind the arc and 87.5% (7-8) from the free throw line. The visiting side outrebounded Brock 43-42 on the night.
Brock will be back on home court for their next game this Saturday at 1pm against the York Lions.
