
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University Vice President of Finance and Administration recognized the 2014-15 championship rowing, baseball and wrestling teams at the "Brock Breakfast of Champions" Wednesday morning at Alphie's.
"It was great to see the room full of our Badger Champions" said Brian Hutchings Vice-President of Finance and Administration at Brock University. "These champion athletes combination of dedication and perseverance have spring boarded Brock's reputation as a great University."
In 2014-15, the Brock Badgers captured five more championships giving them 105 banners in school history. The Badgers also presented the Inaugural Brock Badgers Legacy Awards to four student-athletes. These awards are presented to a top student-athlete from a Championship Team who has made outstanding contributions to interuniversity sport at Brock University through athletics, academic excellence, community involvement, leadership, dedication, enthusiasm and participation.
The 2014-15 Inaugural Brock Badgers Legacy Awards recipients included
Olivia Di Bacco (Women's Wrestling), Matrixx Ferreira (Men's Wrestling)
Chris Anderi (Men's Baseball) and
Matthew Wortley (Men's Rowing).
The Brock women's wrestling program captured their 14th OUA title and 5th CIS national time in school history. The Badgers had six OUA All-Stars and five CIS All-Canadians; highlighted by
Jade Parsons (4-Time CIS Champion), international student
Carlene Sluberski (3-Time CIS Champion, OUA Outstanding Wrestler and Brock Female Athlete of the Year),
Emily Schaefer (OUA and CIS Rookie of the Year),
Indira Moores (CIS Champion) and
Jessica Brouillette (CIS Champion).
The Brock men's wrestling team collected their 15th CIS National title in school history. At the CIS Championships, all nine Brock wrestlers medalled, led by
Nick Rowe (Brock Male Athlete of the Year) and international student
Andrii Vorontsovwho took home CIS gold. Andrew McKenzie and
Tyler Rowe were both named CIS Second Team All-Canadians.
The Brock baseball team were crowned OUA Champions for the fourth time in school history. Led by OUA Coach of the Year
Jeff Lounsbury, the Badgers posted a school best 32-5 overall record. First Team OUA All-Stars
Justin Ayles (OUA Top Pitcher) and
Justin Gideon (OUA Top Hitter) were both conference major award recipients. Brock Baseball is now just three wins shy of 500 as program and is the winningest baseball program in Canada.
The Brock men's rowing team were crowned OUA Champions for the 10th time in school history. The Brock men captured three OUA gold, winning the Men's Lightweight 4, Men's Lightweight 8 and Men's Heavyweight 4. The Badgers also captured silver medals in the Men's Lightweight 1x, Heavyweight 2x and Heavyweight 8.
Brock University Athletics continues to "Build Champions" in Sport, in the Classroom and in the Community. Over Brock University's first 50 Years the Badgers have captured 105 Championships; including 33 National and 72 Provincial titles.
