ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team defeated the Niagara College Knights by the score of 69-42 as part of the annual Peninsula Hoops Classic Saturday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers jumped out to a 17-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back, on route to their sixth consecutive victory over Niagara since the inception of the
Peninsula Hoops Classic.Brock had three players in double digits led by
Kate Harpur (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.) who recorded 11 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double.
Jenalyn Yumol (London, Ont.) and
Melissa Tatti (Hamilton, Ont.) contributed with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Badgers shot just 29.3% from the floor going 24-for-82. They were also just 6-for-23 (
26.0%) from downtown and 15-for-22 (68.2%) from the charity stripe. The Knights shot 27.1% (13-for-48) from the field, 16.7% (4-for-24) from beyond the arc and 75.0% (12-for-16) from the free throw line. Brock forced Niagara into 31 turnovers which led to 21 points and also outrebounded the Knights by a 57-40 margin.
Brock will have three home preseason contests coming up vs Memorial (Oct 2), Laurentian (Oct.9) and Saint Mary's (Oct. 10).
