Box Score ST. CATHARINES, ON - The No. 7 ranked Brock University men's basketball team opened the OUA regular season with a 71-69 victory over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday night at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

The first quarter was scrappy, setting the tone for the rest of the game with the Badgers leading 16-9 after 10 minutes.
 
With the crowd behind them, the Badgers were able to lead throughout the majority of the game, including by as many as 17 points with 1:32 left in the third quarter.

With four minutes left in the game, Brock held a 61-47 lead. The Varsity Blues answered with 22-9 run to make it a one point game 70-69 with less than five seconds remaining.

Brock's Trevor Thompson (Burlington, ON) hit one of two free throws in the final seconds to make it a 71-69. A mid court shot from Toronto at the buzzer did not fall, with Brock escaping with the two-point home win.

Leading the way for the Badgers was Ryan Bennett (Toronto, ON) who recorded 20 points. Rookie Daniel Cayer (Montreal) contributed with 12 points and nine rebounds while Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, ON) added 10 points and five rebounds.

The Varsity Blues Devin Johnson and Manny Sahota combined for 39 points.

The Badgers return to action on Wednesday, November 16th when they take on the McMaster Marauders on the road.
