ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University women's basketball team rolled past the Guelph Gryphons by the score of 82-53 at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Brock held a one-point lead after the opening ten minutes 18-17. Guelph opened the second quarer with a jumper from Quincy Sickles-Jarvis to go up 19-18. Brock answered back with a 14-0 run to take a commanding 32-19 lead with 4:37 left in the first half. The Badgers offense continued to roll, as they led by as many as 31 points late in the final quarter.
Kira Cornelissen (Aylmer, ON) had a big game for the Badgers as she led all scorers with 31 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double.Â
Shannon Northey (Mississauga, ON)Â recorded a career high 13 points going 6-for-7 from the field while pulling down eight boards.Â
Bridget Atkinson (Welland, ON) contributed with 12 points and seven rebounds whileÂ
Melissa Tatti (Ancaster, ON) ) (8 points, 6 assists, 4 steals) andÂ
Alex Symonds (Pelham, ON) (8 points, 5 rebounds) rounded out the Brock leaders.
Ashley Wheeler led the Gryphons with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Badgers shot 40.3% from the field going 29-for-72, including 33.3% (3-for-9) from beyond the arc. They also shot 80.8% (21-for-26) from the charity stripe. Guelph went 19-for-74 (25.7%) from the field, struggled from three-point land going just 1-for-20 (5.0%) and were 14-19 (73.7%) from the free throw line.
Brock hosts the McMaster Marauders next Saturday November 26th at 1pm, at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.Â
