OTTAWA - The Brock University women's basketball team ended the first half of the regular season with a 79-64 loss to the Ottawa GeeGees Saturday night on the road.

Brock jumped out to an early 24-15 lead after one quarter and held a five point lead at the half 36-31.

In the opening four minutes of the third quarter, the GeeGees went on an 18-5 run to go up 49-41 with six minutes left and held a 55-47 lead after 30 minutes.

In the final quarter, Ottawa's offense continued to roll as they went on an 18-2 run to go up 74-49 on route to their fourth victory of the season. For the Badgers, it was their third straight loss and go into the break with a 2-4 OUA record.

Ottawa's bench outscored the Badgers 48-6 and doubled up Brock in points off turnovers.36-18.

Kira Cornelissen (Aylmer, ON) led the Badgers with 20 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double. Also in double digits were Melissa Tatti (Ancaster, ON) who recorded 18 points, six assists and six steals and Bridget Atkinson (Welland, ON) and Baelie Campbell (Halifax, NS) who chipped in with 10 points each in the loss.

Ottawa was led by Amelie Hachey and Sarah Besselink registered 18 and 16 points respectively.

The Badgers shot 36.7% (22-for-60) from the field, 33.3% (6-for-18) from long range and 87.5% (14-for16) from the charity stripe. The GeeGees went 31-for-77 (40.3%) from the floor, 3-for-10 (30.0%) from beyond the arc and  14-for-19 (73.7%) from the free throw line..
