ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University women's volleyball team went the distance with the Western Mustangs dropping a tough 3-2 decision (15-25, 25-19, 14-25, 25-17, 5-15)
Sunday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
"This was one of our best matches of the season against one of the top teams in the OUA," said Brock head coach
Dale Ann Melnick. "We have played our best volleyball in February and despite our record, our players are playing with a lot of intensity and heart which bodes well for our future with such a young and talented group of players."
Leading the Badgers offense was the rookie duo of
Alanna Norris (Whitby, ON) and
Laura Condotta (Etobicoke, ON) who recorded 10 kills each. Rookie setter
Hannah Davenhill (New Zealand) added
25 assists, five digs and four kills, while libero
Karlinna O'Leary(Whitby, ON) finished with 14 digs in the loss.
Western was led by Kelsey Veltman who led all scorers with 28 points adding 19 kills, seven blocks and two aces. Aja Gyimah contributed with 12 kills, while setter Kat Tsiofas registered the double-double finishing with 40 assists and 11 digs.
The Badgers had a 9.2% hitting percentage adding 40 kills and 28 errors on 131 attempts. Western finished with 46 kills and 16 errors on 122 attempts for a 24.6% hitting percentage.
The Badgers return to action February 19th when they take on the Waterloo Warriors on the road.
