ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock women's basketball had a strong second half, coming from behind to defeat the Laurentian Voyageurs by the score of 66-56 Friday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers got out of the gates slow as they trailed 16-4 after 10 minutes. In the second quarter, Brock put together a 10-5 run to end the quarter trailing by seven at the half 26-19.Â
In the opening five minutes of the third quarter, Brock went on a 15-0 run to take a 34-26 lead with 5:23 left in the quarter. Laurentian answered with a 7-0 run of their own to end the quarter, as Brock held a two point lead 41-39 after 30 minutes.Â
The Badgers went up by nine points midway through the fourth quarter, leading 54-45 with 5:29 left in regulation. The visiting Voyageurs once again rallied with 12-4 run to make it a one point game 57-56, with just over two minutes left in regulation. Brock closed out the contest with a 9-0 run to escape with the victory.
Leading the Brock offense was
Kayla Santilli (Brantford, ON) who recorded a game high 21 points and eight rebounds.
Kate Harpur (NOTL, ON) contributed with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Melissa Tatti (Ancaster, ON) and
Kira Cornelissen (Aylmer, ON) chipped in with eight points each in the victory. Tatti also collected five steals in the contest.
Laurentian had three players in double figures led by Danielle Harris who finished with 16 points and eight boards. Mackenzie Robinson and Meghan Forestell added 13 points each in the loss.
For the game, the Badgers shot 34.6% (28-for-81) from the field, 20.0% (6-for-30) from beyond the arc and just 57.1% (4-for-7) from the charity stripe. Â Laurentian went 20-for-56 (35.7%) from the floor, 6-for-27 (22.2%) from long range and 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line. Brock forced the Voyageurs to 28 turnovers, leading to a 25-7 margin in points off turnovers.
The Badgers return to action Saturday night as they host the Nipissing Lakers at 6pm at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
