ST. CATHARINES, ON - The No. 7 ranked Brock University men's basketball team defeated the Nipissing Lakers by the score of 86–69 Saturday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Brock jumped out to an early 17-4 lead in the opening five minutes and led 50-29 at the half.
In the third quarter, Brock extended their lead to as many as 28 points, on route to their 25th victory of the season. With the victory, head coach
Charles Kissi moves into 4th spot all-time for most wins in a Brock single season.
The Badgers had five players in double figures led by
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, ON) who finished with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Zachary Angelini (Hamilton, ON) contributed with 13 points, while
Matt Marshall (Burlington, ON),
Johneil Simpson (Toronto, ON) and
Ryan Bennett (Toronto, ON) chipped in with 12, 11 and 11 points respectively. Rookie
Tyler Brown (Hamilton, ON) added nine points and five assists in the victory.
Nipissing was led by Wil Konybai who led all scorers with a game-high 16 points. Also in double digits were Marcus Lewis (13), Kalil Langston (13) and Joey Puddister (12).
The Badgers shot 47.8% (33-for-69) from the field, 30.8% (4-for-13) from three-point land and 84.2% (16-for-19) from the charity stripe. Nipissing went 21-for-56 (37.5%) from the floor, 3-for-12 (25.0%) from beyond the arc and 85.7% (24-for-28) from the free throw line.
The Badgers return to action Wednesday night at 7:30pm when they host divisional rival McMaster Marauders at the Meridian Centre.
