THUNDER BAY, ON - The Brock University women's basketball team fell to the Lakehead Thunderwolves 71-47 on Saturday night at the Thunderdome.
After defeating the Thunderwolves in the first game of the annual doubleheader, the Badgers were unable to secure the season sweep.
Trailing 17-15 after the 1st quarter, the Badgers were unable to match the production of Lakehead through the remainder of the game as they were outscored 54-32 the rest of the way. The Badgers struggled shooting the ball, as they shot just 28.6% from the floor (18-63) including a 5.6% clip (1-18) from 3-point range. Lakehead shot 34.8% from the floor (24-69) including a 21.1% clip from deep (4-19). \
Kira Cornelissen who notched a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, as she went 7-8 from the free-throw line, led the Badgers. Also chipping in was
Bridget Atkinson who added 14 points and 7 rebounds.
For the Thunderwolves, the offence led a balanced attack with Rachel Webber (11 points, 5 rebounds), Jericka Baldin (13 points, 7 assists, 4 steals, 4 rebounds), Gillian Lavoie (12 pounds, 5 rebounds), and Nikki Ylagin (10 points, 3 steals) all notching double-digit point totals.
The loss concludes a road trip in which the Badgers went 2-4. They will return home to host the Queens Gaels on January 20th at 6 pm for their first home game of the New Year.
