SUDBURY, ON - The Brock University women's basketball team dropped a 64-56 decision to the Laurentian Voyageurs Friday night on the road.
Brock led 27-26 at the half. In the third quarter, Brock led 32-31 with six minutes remaining, before Laurentian put together a 13-2 run to close out the quarter, leading 44-34 after 30 minutes.
In the final quarter, the Badgers would bring it to within five, 45-40, with seven minutes remaining, but that was as close as they would come, dropping their fourth straight contest.
Kira Cornelissen (Alymer, ON) led the Badgers offense finishing with 16 points and five rebounds.
Bridget Atkinson (Welland, ON) added 11 points and four boards while
Melissa Tatti (Ancaaster, ON),
Jessica Morris (Guelph, ON) and
Alex Symonds (Pelham, ON) chipped in with nine, eight and seven points respectively.
Laurentian had all five starters in double figures led by Emily Tinnes and L'Ashante Henry who registered 12 points each. Tinnes also handed out 10 assists for the double-double.
For the game, Brock shot 37.7% (20-for-53) from the field, 16.7% (2-for-12) from long range and 63.6% (14-for-22) from the free throw line. The Voyageurs went 24-for-49 (49.0%) from the floor including 4-for-11 (36.4%) from three-point land and 12-for-18 (66.7%) from the charity stripe. Â
The Badgers return to action Saturday night at 6pm as they take on the Nipissing Lakers on the road.
