NORTH BAY, ON - The No. 6 ranked Brock University men's basketball team dropped a 69-66 decision to the Nipissing Lakers Saturday night on the road.
This game saw 11 different lead changes and 13 ties as the host Lakers outlasted the Badgers for their fourth conference victory in school history.
Nipissing jumped out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter. The Badgers answered with a 21-8 second quarter, as the Lakers held a 27-25 lead after 20 minutes.
Brock took a one-point lead, 49-48 after 30 minutes.
In the final 20 seconds, with Nipissing holding onto a 67-66 lead, Ismael Kaba got the steal from
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, ON) and layed it in for the 69-66 lead. With 4.9 seconds on the game clock, Brock got two chances to tie it but both shots rattled off the rim.
Brock had four players in double digits led by rookie
Daniel Cayer (Montreal, QC) who recorded 19 points and five rebounds.
Tyler Brown (Hamilton, ON) added 13 points while
Johneil Simpson (Toronto, ON) and Elgadi chipped in with 12 points each in the loss.
Kaba led the Lakers with 18 points, which included going 5-for-11 from beyond the arc.
Brock shot 36.6% (26-for-71) from the field, 29.4% (5-for-17) from three-point land and 60.0% (9-for-15) from the charity stripe. The Lakers were 25-for-63 (39.7%) from the floor, 7-for-23 (30.4%) from beyond the arc and 12-for-19 (63.2%) from the free throw line.
The Badgers return to action January 13th and 14th when they travel to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves in two key OUA Central Division matchups.
