The Brock University women's hockey opened the 2017-18 OUA regular season with a 2-0 loss to the Queen's Gaels at the Seymour-Hannah Centre Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the game, the Badgers celebrated their 20th Anniversary of the program. On hand for the opening ceremonies were members of the 1998 team, including former head coach and the founder Todd Erskine. Brock also recognized Sarah Brooks, one of the former great players who was on the original team, as she was presented with the Badger of Honour Award.

The two teams played an even opening period with the score tied 0-0. In the second period, Queen's outshot Brock 14-7, but it was Brock starter Jensen Murphy standing tall and coming up with some key saves to keep it 0-0 after 40 minutes.

Seven minutes into the third period, Queen's would answer first as Amber Sealey, Bryce Desa setup Katrina Mannoukarakis for her first goal of the season. Just 38 seconds later, the Gaels would take a 2-0 lead as Kaylie Dennis beat Murphy with Addi Halladay adding the lone assist.

In goal, Murphy registered 35 saves in the loss while Queen's starter Stephanie Pascal turned aside all 22 shots she face for the shutout victory.

The Badgers return to action Sunday, October 22nd at the Seymour-Hannah Centre when they host the UOIT Ridgebacks at 2:15.
