ST. CATHARINES, ON - The No. 4 ranked Brock University men's basketball team held on to defeat the Waterloo Warriors by the score of 66-63 Wednesday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Midway through the opening quarter, Brock led 9-8, before putting together a 12-3 run to lead 23-11 after 10 minutes. The Badgers held a 37-29 lead at the half.
Brock opened the third quarter with a basket, before Waterloo went on a 9-2 run to make it a one basket game 41-38 with six minutes left in the third. The teams would continue to share baskets the remainder of the quarter as Brock held onto a five point lead after 30 minutes, 51-45.
In the final quarter, Waterloo would continue to push bringing it within two points, 51-49, with 6:52 left in regulation. Brock would answer with a 10-2 run to go up 61-51 with 3:39 left. The Warriors would not go away, making it 63-58 with less than a minute left. Brock would knock down 3 of 6 from the charity stripe to go up 66-60, before Justin Hardy drained a three at the buzzer for Waterloo.
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, ON) finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double, while
Cassidy Ryan (Mississauga, ON) contributed with 14 points off the bench.
Waterloo was led by Nedim Hodzic who added 22 points and eight boards in the loss.
For the game, Brock shot 45.5% (25-55) from the field, 16.7% (2-12) from long range and 66.7% (14-21) from the charity stripe. The Warriors went 21-58 (36.2%) from the floor, including 5-23 (21.7%) from beyond the arc and 16-23 (69.6%) from the free throw line.
The Badgers next action is February 4th at 3pm when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
