GUELPH, ON - The Brock University men's hockey team opened the 2017 OUA Hockey Playoffs with a 5-1 loss to the Guelph Gryphons on the road Thursday night.
The score remained 0-0 until the final two minutes of the second period, despite the Gryphons outshooting Brock 26-9 in the opening 40 minutes.
Guelph got on the board with 1:56 left in the second period as Peter Soligo and Cody Thompson setup Robert Lepine for his first of the postseason.
Guelph would continue to pepper Brock starter
Clint Windsor (Burlington, ON) in the third period and would find the back of the net three more times with goals from Andres Kopstals, Nick Boyer and Emmanuel Gialedakis to go up 4-0 with eight minutes left in regulation.
Brock would get on the board at 13:58 as
Matt MacLeod (Niagara Falls, ON) setup
Andrew Radjenovic (Hamilton, ON) to make it 4-1.
With the goalie pulled, Guelph would get an empty netter from Marc Stevens to secure the victory.
In goal, Windsor recorded 32 saves in the loss. Guelph's Scott Stajer collected 18 saves for the victory.
The Badgers host the Gryphons Friday, February 17th at 7:15 in Game 2 at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
