ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock University women's basketball team defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks by the score of 72-67 Saturday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers held a 33-31 lead at the half. Midway through the third quarter, the Golden Hawks held a 41-39 lead, before Brock closed out the final five minutes with a 13-6 run to lead 52-47 after 30 minutes.Â
In the final quarter, after two Laurier baskets, Brock would put together a 12-1 run to go up 64-51 with just over five minutes left in regulation. The Golden Hawks answered with a 16-5 run of their own trailing 69-67 with 1:24 left.
Melissa Tatti (Ancaster, ON) would make it 71-67 next time down the court, and Laurier would miss four straight field goals to end the game.
Brock had four players in double figures led by
Baelie Campbell (Halifax, NS) who recorded a game-high 19 points going 8-for-11 from the field.Â
Bridget Atkinson (Welland, ON) added the double-double registering 15 points and 14 rebounds while handing out six assists. Tatti contributed with 12 points, eight assists and four steals while
Shannon Northey (Misssissauga, ON) chipped in with 11 points and five boards in the victory.
Nicole Morrisson led Laurier with 19 points in the loss.
The Badgers shot 46.0% (29-63) from the field, 36.4% (4-11) from beyond the arc and 83.3% (10-12) from the charity stripe. Laurier went 25-76 (32.9%) from the field, 8-32 (25.0%) from long range and 9-14 (64.3%) from the free throw line.
