Box Score Goaltender Jensen Murphy made 46 saves to backstop the Brock women's hockey team to a 2-0 shutout versus the UOIT Ridgebacks in Oshawa on Friday.
First-year forward Cassidy Maplethorpe scored her first OUA goal and Amanda Ieradi opened the scoring early in the second period.
"Jensen was solid in the net for the shutout. Well deserved, she played amazing as usual," said head coach Margot Page. "Good to see Cassidy get her first OUA goal."
Maggie Spratt-Mallick, Carley Blomberg and Brena Murphy each picked up an assist.
The Ridgeback outshot the Badgers 14-9 in the first frame.
"We were a little bit too energized at the start of the game. We were playing hard, but not smart," said Page. "It was scrambly first and then we settled into the second period well and controlled a lot of the play and were rewarded with two goals."
UOIT poured it on in the third period by outshooting the Badgers 23-7.
"We sat back and played a bit too much as individuals," said Page. "During a six-on-five we were hemmed in our own end, but were able to be resilient and get the win. Nice to get those three points on the road, but are hoping for a better overall game tomorrow in Kingston."
Up next, the Badgers (2-0) visit the Queen's Golden Gaels (3-2) on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
