Box Score The No. 10 Brock men's basketball team fell to the No. 1 Carleton Ravens by a score of 86-46 to begin their two-game road trip to Ottawa on Friday.
Johneil Simpson led all Badgers with 14 points, as well as three rebounds, an assist and a steal during 22 minutes of play. Chipping in defensively, Mitch Saunders attributed a team-high five rebounds along with an assist.
Brock started out evenly matched in the first quarter by trading points inside and outside the paint to keep the game within eight points heading into the second quarter.
However, the offensive efficiency Brock posted during the first quarter wasn't unsustainable against the Ravens.
Carleton led 48-18 at halftime.
"I think it comes down to the second quarter. We couldn't find our rhythm offensively and our execution wasn't great so it shows by us scoring only five points. I thought that really affected us," said head coach Madhav Trivedi. "Not being able to score affected us on the other end and we gave up some very easy buckets in the paint and against a team of that caliber you can't do that."
Despite struggling in the second quarter to keep up with the Ravens shooting, Brock answered back in the third quarter by scoring 22 points of their own to chip away at the Ravens' lead.
The Badgers kept answering back in the final frame thanks to the play of guards Kascius Small-Martin and Noah LaPierre, as well as the presence inside the paint in Ryan Cooper and Mitch Saunders.
Carleton's substantial early-game lead proved to be too much for the Badgers.
The Badgers (5-3) will seek the win column when they travel across town to face off against University of Ottawa GeeGees (5-2) on Saturday, Nov. 24.
