Badgers suffer close loss to No. 6 Warriors

The No. 6 Waterloo Warriors remain undefeated despite a close contest with the Brock Badgers at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday.

Waterloo won 3-2 (19-25, 25-19, 25-15, 18-25, 15-10) to improve to 7-0. The Badgers sit in the third place of the West Division with a record of 5-4.

Brock led after the first set with a kill percentage of .400, however Waterloo won back-to-back sets before the Badgers battled back to win the fourth.

"We got tight at times during the second set," said head coach Steve Delaney. "It wasn't until the fourth set that we shook away the negativity and tension. To come back like that against one of the top teams in the country was very big for us."

Darby Taylor, who was named Player of the Game, led the Badgers with 12 kills and added nine digs.

Grace Edwards and Laura Condotta each finished with 11 kills. Condotta also added 11 digs and Edwards finished with eight.

Sarah Rohr contributed 41 assists and 14 digs, while Mikayla Law-Heese notched 12 digs.

Jamie Holland, Grace Pyatt and Jennifer Todd each picked up five kills.

"We were right in that match, so we'll take that and grow," said Delaney. "Darby was unbelievable for us tonight. We had a lot of positives and we outblocked them."

For the Warriors, Claire Mackenzie led all players with 20 kills.

The Badgers begin their winter break until Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host the Western Mustangs to kick off three straight games at home.
