Box Score The No. 10 Brock men's basketball team left Ottawa empty handed as they fell just short against the No. 7 Ottawa GeeGees on Saturday night by a score of 94-91. All five starters finished in double digits in points, led by
Daniel Cayer with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
"We had some costly turnovers, fouls in our game plan defensively that made it hard for us to get back into rhythm in key moments in the third quarter that came back to haunt us," said head coach
Madhav Trivedi.
This game tested the defence of both sides as highly touted offensive powerhouses went to work. The momentum shifted often during the game as both the GeeGees and Badgers strung together opportunities, but it was Badgers who saw the better of the opportunities in the first half as they held on to go into the second quarter trailing 21-20 and finished the second with a 49-40 lead. Key stops on the defensive end leading to open transition opportunities worked well for the Badgers and they would need to keep it up to remain on top in the third quarter.
The third saw a big momentum shift in the favor of the Gee-Gees as they pushed back against the Badgers lead and turned a 9-point lead into just 4 going into the final 10 minutes. Despite efforts from all around, the Badgers couldn't hold off Ottawa's last minute push and the three-point shooting that got the Gee-Gees back in the game midway through, put them ahead, eventually sealing the victory.
Now just one game above .500, the Badgers will look to bounce back into the win column at the end of November when they play host to the Queen's Golden Gaels and York Lions.
