GeeGees fly by Badgers

Finishing off their weekend in the nation's capital, the Brock women's basketball team fell to the Ottawa GeeGees by a score of 93-53.

Sofia Croce led all scorers for Brock with 12 points and four rebounds while Melissa Tatti followed close behind with 10 points, two rebounds, nine assists and three steals in 40 minutes of play.

"It was a tough weekend for us, but everyone had an opportunity to contribute and we're ready to get back in the gym and work on what we've learned," said Allie Columbus.

In a fast paced start, Brock and Ottawa both relied on the style of play they've been using up until now and tried their best to get around their opponents defence. Capitalizing on more opportunities around the glass, Ottawa pushed ahead to a 14-7 lead going into the second quarter.

As both teams pushed the pace in the second quarter, Ottawa continued to use their size advantage in the paint and Brock was forced to answer back with their shooting. The Badgers and GeeGees remained evenly matched throughout the second quarter as Ottawa held a 37-25 lead going into the second half.

The Gee-Gees changed up their style in the third quarter, adapting to the Badgers paint-heavy defence and the Badgers were unable to answer back on the offensive end as Ottawa pushed their lead farther and farther. Despite contributions from almost every active player up until the end of the third, Ottawa went into the final frame leading 65-36. Ottawa kept up their perimeter shooting in the fourth and held the lead over the Badgers, eventually taking the victory.

The Badgers will now travel back home and prepare for two home games at the end of the month against the Queen's Golden Gaels and York Lions.
