The Brock University women's hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision in Game One to the Guelph Gryphons Wednesday night on the road. Guelph leads the best 2-out-of-3 playoff series 1-0.

Guelph got on the board first with just over a minute left in the opening period as Claire Merrick and Kelly Gribbons setup Kaitlin Lowy for her first goal of the postseason. Less than a minute later, the Badgers Kat Whiteye took a pass from Paige Cohoon and beat Guelph starter Valerie Lamenta for her first of the playoffs.

The Gryphons took a 2-1 lead, which would prove to be the eventual game winner,  2:27 into the second period as Katie Mikkelsen added a power play marker. Katherine Bailey and Lowy added the assists.

In goal, Brock starter Jensen Murphy recorded 32 saves in the loss while Lamenta turned aside 13 of 14 shots she faced for the victory.

Game Two is schedule for 2:15 pm Saturday, February 24th at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
