ST. CATHARINES, ON - The McGill Redmen captured the 107th Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Queen's Cup
Presented by CCM as they defeated the Brock Badgers by the score of 5-1 Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd of 1,517 at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
The Redmen opened the scoring 7:20 into the opening period as Jan Kaminsky setup Samuel Tremblay for the 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes later, Tremblay beat Brock starter
Clint Windsor for his second goal of the night to make it 2-0.
In front of the sell out crowd, Brock cut the lead in half midway through the second period as
Sammy Banga and
Chris Maniccia setup
Ayden MacDonald on the power play to make it 2-1.
With five minutes left in the second period, McGill's offense answered with three straight power play goals to take a 5-1 lead. Scoring the final three goals for McGill, all with the man advantage, were Guillaume Gauthier, Christophe Lalonde and Jerome Verrier.
Early in the third period, the Badgers added some pressure and had some strong scoring chances, but it was McGill starter Louis-Philip Guindon coming up with some key saves.
Samuel Tremblay was named the OUA Queen's Cup Championship Game MVP
Presented by CCM for his two-goal performance.
In goal, McGill's Guindon registered 24 saves for the victory. Brock's
Clint Windsor collected 27 saves in the loss.
Both teams will represent the OUA next week at the USPORTS University Cup in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
