The Brock University men's hockey team dropped a tough 4-3 decision in overtime to the York Lions Friday night in front of a capacity crowd at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
York opened the score 7:17 into the opening period as Derek Sheppard and Colton Vannucci setup Trevor Petersen for his fifth goal of the postseason.
Brock tied it up 1-1 on the power play with 4:33 left in the first period as
Matt MacLeod setup rookie
Ayden MacDonald for his third goal of the playoffs.
The Badgers took a 2-1 lead 3:25 into the second period as Chris Mannicia beat York starter Mack Shields for his second playoff goal.
Cosimo Fontana and
Skylar Pacheco added the assists. Midway through the second period, the Badgers went ahead 3-1 lead as McLeod and
Josh Timpano found
Sammy Banga for his second of the postseason.
The Lions cut the Brock lead to one, 3-2, with 4:17 left in the second period as Morgan Messenger collected his fourth postseason marker.
York tied the game 3-3, just 1:22 into the third period, as Daniel Nikandrov and Justin Bean setup Nick Coric for his first postseason goal.Â
Eight minutes into overtime, York's Adam Marsh would be the hero as he beat Brock's
Clint Windsor for the game winner sending this series to Game 3.
In goal, Windsor recorded 34 saves in the loss while Shields collected 29 saves for his fifth win of the playoffs.
Game 3 will take place Saturday night at the Canlan Ice Sports in Toronto with the winner advancing to the Queen's Cup final and earning a berth into the USPORTS National Championships in Fredericton.
