Box Score The Brock men's basketball team defeated the Waterloo Warriors 94-81 on Saturday evening to boost their record to 9-5.
Johneil Simpson once again proved himself as an elite scorer with 33 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Daniel Cayer contributed 17 and added nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Brock started slow, unable to find a rhythm in their play and the Warriors punished them early. Around the midway point of the first quarter Brock called a timeout and came out of it much more settled, finding a pace that worked for them and chipping away at Waterloo's lead to the point where they went into the second quarter ahead 19-17.
Now running smoothly, the Badgers continued to find scorers at an efficient rate and get stops on the defensive end due to their presence around the paint and pressure put on the guards. Ending the second quarter with a 43-35 lead, Brock was ready to do whatever it took to hold on and earn the victory.
The third quarter featured two teams running at the same efficiency.
It was an evenly matched 10 minutes with key stops by both teams, and Brock entered the final frame ahead 63-54. Â
Waterloo gnawed at the lead in the fourth, keeping it within 10 for much of the quarter. While they were able to keep the Badgers within reach, the shooting of Simpson, rebounding of Cayer and Mitch Saunders, and the execution of Cassidy Ryan and Tyler Brown made sure the Warriors never got too close and secured Brock the victory.
Moving forward, the Brock Badgers face off against the Gryphons (6-8) in Guelph on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m.
