The Brock Badgers cheer team brought home a gold and silver medal from the ICU University World Cup Cheerleading Championship at the Walt Disney World Resort on Jan. 20.
The Badgers earned a silver medal in the All-Girl Premier Division and helped boost Canada's overall rankings to second place.
Brock won gold in the All-Girls Game Day Division.
This is the sixth consecutive season Brock Cheer has competed at the event.
"Competing at the ICU University World Cheerleading Cup Championship is always an honour," said head coach Tara Savoie. "
This year, the Badgers brought 22 athletes to Orlando.
"Our goal was to hit a clean routine by focusing on good technique, confidence, being sharp and having fun with our routine," said Savoie.
Brock narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the All-Girl Premier Division, which went to Northern Arizona University, by 0.15 points.
"One thing that we do well in their preparation is learning how to remain present and eliminate distractions, they train for this throughout the season as a team and individually and it has really helped," said Savoie. "During their performances, remaining present from skill to skill was evident this past weekend, the ladies matt talk and squad unity was evident to all."
Athletes who attend include Jena Berndt, Natalie Bruno, Tiffany Byron, Mackenzie Craig, Tricia-Rae Doma, Haley Dunbar, Natasha Fortuna, Peri Goodman, Aliesha Goulbourne, Lauryn Hackel, Holly Hebert, Janna Mcquade, Alexandra Moffat, Abigail Morris, Emillea Ratskos, Paige Shewfelt, Rachel Takashima, Nicole Thihanyi, Sabrina Trolio, Leah Weidner, Jaymie Wilkinson and Lianne Major.
The coaching staff consisted of Savoie, Sara Scott, Lorna Holland, Chuck Holland, Karen Wallace and Madison Bell.
