Badgers saddle Mustangs

Box Score

The Brock women's basketball team (5-7) returned to the hardcourt with a 70-57 win over the Western Mustangs (1-11) in London on Saturday.

Melissa Tatti did a bit of everything for the Badgers.

Tatti led the team with 14 points and recorded three assists and two steals.

Meagan Charbonneau scored 13 points and collected four defensive boards.

Brock took an early lead over Western by running the offence they'd been practicing throughout the winter break, and executing plays seamlessly while punishing on the other end.

A razor-thin lead, 13-12, for the Mustangs after the first quarter turned into a 30-21 lead for the Badgers going into the second half as their offense exploded.

Western fought back in the third quarter with several offensive runs thanks to three-pointers, but it wasn't enough to crumble the Badgers 51-37 lead.

With both teams running on all cylinders in the final quarter, the fans were treated to big shots and desperate drives to the basket, but the lead Brock built early on sustained them through the intense action and lead them to victory.

Up next, the Badgers hit the road once again on Wednesday, Jan. 9 to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks (4-8) in their second meeting of the season.
