Box Score The Brock Badgers women's basketball team won their third consecutive game with a 59-53 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo on Wednesday.
Brock inched closer to .500 with a record of 6-7.
Courtney Mcpherson did a bit of everything for the Badgers and registered a double-double as she filled up the scoresheet with 12 points, 15 rebounds, an assist, three steals and a block.
"Both these last games were character builders, helping our team realize that we are on the cusp of being in a playoff position," said McPherson. "Every one of these wins is giving us more and more confidence and allowing us to gel at the right time."
Kristin Gallant led with 16 points and added five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Brock put emphasis on movement especially off the ball to scatter Laurier's defence and create open looks.
While the Golden Hawks kept the game close after the first quarter by holding a 9-8 lead before the Badgers pulled ahead in the second slightly more. Brock entered the second half ahead 29-25. Â
The offensive rebounding gave Brock a lot of second chances in their possessions with the Badgers using their size and quickness to their advantage to catch the Golden Hawks off-guard around the paint. Brock continued to hammer away and went into the final 10 minutes ahead 45-39.
Laurier answered back in the fourth quarter chaining their baskets together and brought the game within three points, however Brock remained composed in the final minute
Up next, the Badgers return to the Waterloo area on Jan. 12 in their next game when they take on the Waterloo Warriors in the first of their two meetings.
