Badgers outlast Lancers in wild playoff game

Striker Jared Agyemang cashed in a penalty kick to lift the Brock men's soccer team to a 4-3 victory over the Windsor Lancers in double extra time to open the OUA playoffs.

Agyemang's marker at the 119th minute sent a crowd of more than 300 fans at Brock Alumni Field into a frenzy on a cold Wednesday night.

11181"This victory means everything to us," said Agyemang, who finished the night with two goals. "We hosted Brock's first home playoff game in years and came out on top. We know how bad we wanted it for each other, the fans, and we proved it on the field today."

The Badgers advance to the quarter-finals where they travel to Guelph to play the Gryphons on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m.

Brock outshot Windsor 16-12 and Lancers midfielder Tanner Page scored three goals.

Page opened the scoring just six minutes into the match before Agyemang scored his first to tie it up before halftime.

In the second, Page restored the Lancers' lead before Sebastian Agudo and Daniel Buccianti scored back-to-back goals during the 73rd and 76th minutes.

"This game had everything," said head coach Lucio Ianiero. "There were times when we weren't looking very good. Times where we were outstanding. The boys wanted it even though Windsor put up an unbelievable fight."

Windsor sent the game into extra time with a goal at the 84th minute. In extras, the Lancers outshot Brock 5-3 as goalkeeper Alex May came up with five big saves.

"This win is up there in all of my years of being around the game," said Ianiero.

Brock recorded 10 corners to Windsor's two.

"Out of all my years playing in the OUA, this game was one of the most exhilarating," added Agyemang, who is playing in his fifth and final season. "I try my best to treat it like every other game, but it's extra motivating knowing it could be my last. I'm just glad the boys and I showed up for it."
