Fans packed Bob Davis Gymnasium to cheer on the Brock men's volleyball team during their home opener on Friday.
The game also served as the annual Jason Pearson Memorial Game.
Libero Mitchell Taylor, an Accounting student from St. Catharines, was awarded the Jason Pearson Memorial Scholarship prior to their match versus the Lancers.
Taylor, an Accounting student from St. Catharines, earned the award due to his athletic and academic ability, but also because he exhibits the same qualities and positive attitude for as Pearson did.
Although the Badgers lost their first game of the season by a score of 3-1 (23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 22-25), first-year head coach Matt Ragogna liked what he saw from his lineup.
"I loved the compete level from our guys tonight," said Ragogna. "We were up three to four points in every set and now just need to close out sets."
Badgers outside hitter Logan House filled up the scoresheet with 22 kills, four service aces, 11 digs and a block.
Brock posted a game-high .458 kill percentage during the second set and won the third.
Saulius Lianga scored eight kills while Peter Schanbel and Dean Globocki each added six kills.
Grant Reddon registered 42 assists, four service aces and 11 digs.
"It was a battle on both sides and three of our rookies responded tremendously to the pressure," said Ragogna. "Although falling short it was a good push to start the season."
