Keltos posts double-double, Badgers mop up Lakers

Sam Keltos posted a double-double and the No. 10 Brock women's basketball team walked over the Nipissing Lakers at the Robert J Surtees Student Athletics Centre in North Bay on Friday.

"We knew coming into the game that teams like this can sneak up on you if you aren't focused and prepared," said Keltos. "We came into the game with our mind focused and prepared to have high energy all game."

Keltos scored 23 points and recorded 14 rebounds as the Badgers won 61-41 for their fourth consecutive win.

"We shared the ball really well and had an inside out game which got us open looks," said Keltos. "Especially for me, I had some cuts inside and my teammates got me the ball and we were able to finish inside. Coach Rao doesn't have me playing just as an inside player and with our offences I'm able to roll into the post off a pick and roll or rise to the three-point line to get another look from the offence."

Brock led 31-18 at the half and outscored Nipissing 26-18 in the third quarter.

"Sam looked very good and Eden had a big game on the boards," said head coach Mike Rao. "Sam is a pick and pop big, but also recognizes an inside mismatch when she has it. It's easy to draw up plays when you have a player of her calibre."

Eden Ferraro added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Melissa Tatti scored seven points, seven rebounds and eight assists.

The Badgers shot for 34.2 per cent (25-for-73) and outrebounded the Lakers 51-36.

Up next, the Badgers (7-1) visit Laurentian (2-6), who have lost their last three games, on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m.
